From a dead website to PageSpeed 100: a car repair shop and dealer in Solferino, with an AI photo studio

    The challenge

When Z-Garage got in touch, their website no longer existed. The previous provider had switched it off and walked away: no logins, no files, just a parked domain. For a workshop that lives on local customers, disappearing from Google meant losing calls from people looking for a mechanic near home, and from holidaymakers on the lake with a warning light on and nobody to call.

There were four challenges: recover the z-garage.it domain and start over without losing the identity customers already recognised; get found both by people living in the Alto Mantovano area and by tourists on southern Lake Garda, who speak other languages and rarely phone; give room to the newly launched used-car sales without the section ever looking empty; and let the owner publish a car from their phone, photos included, without going through me every time.

On top of that, the owner is not technical and has little time, and wanted to see finished, working things, not drafts to comment on.

    The solution

First I recovered the z-garage.it domain and rebuilt the site from scratch. I kept the colours customers already associated with the workshop, black, yellow and light grey, and redid everything else: structure, copy, images and page hierarchy.

The site is built with Astro on Cloudflare Workers. Service pages are pre-rendered and open instantly; car listings are generated from the database on each request, with edge caching, so a car added from the admin panel is online immediately with no rebuild. The result is a PageSpeed score of 100 on both mobile and desktop.

Visually I focused on a few recognisable elements: the large outlined Z-GARAGE lettering scrolling across the hero, a tyre-tread texture on the dividers, and a sticky Call and WhatsApp bar always under the thumb on mobile. I replaced the old stock photos with real photos of the building; the few AI-generated images show only generic details, never a workshop or staff that don't exist.

    Features delivered:

    • Website in 5 languages – Italian, English, German, Russian and Albanian, with hreflang on every page. The browser-language redirect fires only on the home page and only on the first visit, so Google indexes every version.
    • Custom car admin panel – built for the phone: dropdowns for make, model, fuel and gearbox, photos uploaded from the camera roll, Available, Reserved and Sold statuses. The number-plate field is ready for automatic vehicle data lookup.
    • Export for Subito – Subito, Italy's main classifieds site, has no public API, so every listing downloads as a ZIP with photos and copy ready to upload.
    • AI photo studio – an app installable on iPhone that takes up to 15 photos per car, recognises interiors, exteriors and details on its own, replaces the background with an outdoor scene or a showroom, adds the workshop logo and brings everything to the same 4:3 format, extending the background when the shot is vertical. For interiors, only the view through the windows changes.
    • Automatic plate cover – the AI finds the four corners of the number plate and the workshop's graphic is applied in perspective. If the plate isn't found, four taps place it by hand.
    • Photo-by-photo review – before and after comparison, single-image regeneration, export as ZIP or direct sharing from the phone. The AI key is encrypted and files are deleted after 48 hours.
    • Short contact form – name, phone, service or plate, message. Requests arrive by email and are stored: it's designed for people writing out of hours or from abroad.

    Testimonial

"Our old website had disappeared and the previous provider no longer answered. Ekaterina got the domain back, and within a few weeks we had a new site: our colours, but much clearer. Now people find us on Google, tourists around the lake included, and they message us on WhatsApp in English, Russian and German. What I use most is the car panel: I take the photos with my phone, the studio changes the background and covers the plate, and two minutes later the car is online. You don't need to be good with computers."

    Strategy

    1. Recover the domain, keep the identity

A new site on a long-standing domain has to feel like the same workshop, just better presented. That's why the colours stayed the same, while structure, copy and images were rebuilt from the ground up. The logo is being redesigned and will be replaced as soon as it's ready.

    2. A home page that works as the main local page

The workshop is in Solferino, so the home page targets "officina Solferino" and every service, from mechanics to tyres, diagnostics to air conditioning, has its own page. Alongside them are six local pages for Castiglione delle Stiviere, Volta Mantovana, Guidizzolo, Desenzano, Lonato and southern Lake Garda, with real distances and travel times instead of copy-pasted text with the town name swapped.

    3. The tourist with an unexpected problem

People on holiday don't look for a garage until they need one, and then they search in their own language. I created dedicated pages such as "Lake Garda mechanic", "Werkstatt am Gardasee" and "Автосервис у озера Гарда". The staff speak Italian, English and Russian: the German and Albanian pages say so clearly and invite visitors to write on WhatsApp, in English too, instead of promising a service that isn't there.

    4. Technical SEO and GEO

AutoRepair and AutoDealer structured data with coordinates, opening hours and service areas, Car and Offer on every car for sale, FAQ and breadcrumbs, and a dedicated sitemap for the cars. The llms.txt file describes services, areas and pages in every language, and also says what the workshop doesn't do: no towing, roadside assistance or courtesy cars. That way AI assistants recommending a mechanic in the area have correct information.

    5. Real reviews, in the right place

Z-Garage has 43 Google reviews with a 4.9 average. The Italian version shows reviews from Italian customers, the other languages show reviews from foreign customers, always in their original wording. No star ratings in the structured data: reviews stay as visible text, as Google requires.

    6. One step at a time with the client

The work went in phases: first the Italian site, then the car panel and the languages, and finally the photo studio. The owner had a preview link within the first week, a one-minute voice update every week and a single decision at a time, with two options and my recommendation.

    The results

The site is live at z-garage.it and does the job it was built for: getting found locally and turning a visit into a phone call or a WhatsApp message.

    • PageSpeed 100 – on both mobile and desktop.
    • Online presence rebuilt – from a dead website to a site in 5 languages, with dedicated pages for every service, the nearby towns and Lake Garda tourists.
    • Cars online from a phone – the owner adds a car, uploads the photos and publishes it on their own, with no waiting and no need to go through me.
    • Consistent listing photos – background, format, logo and plate cover consistent across every car, with no photographer or photo-editing software.
    • Ready for AI assistants – complete structured data and an llms.txt that also describes the limits of the service.
